MURUMURU BUTTER - What is this little Amazonian treasure?

Amazonian MuruMuru Butter

All our ingredients are part of our formulations for a very good reason - they all do wonderful things to your skin and/or hair. You may have noticed two of our best selling Hair Conditioners with MuruMuru & Macadamia and may wondered about what MuruMuru is, so here is a little bit more about this wonderful natural ingredient and why we use it in our formulations.

Where does Murumuru come from?

MuruMuru is a palm tree native to the Amazonian Rainforest in Brazil. The palm bears edible fruits that are an important source of food for the local population however, not unusually the entire plant is used and various materials are made from both the tree (for example hammocks), the fruit and the seeds.

Murumuru oil is pressed from the seeds of the fruit. It is referred to as a ‘butter’ since it has a semi-solid texture at our room temperature (in Britain), it will be liquid in the summer and hotter climates and even harder during cold weather. For those of you already familiar with shea butter and coconut oil - murumuru has softer texture than shea butter but is harder than coconut oil.

Composition of MuruMuru

Murumuru Butter has a unique composition of essential fatty acids (these are Omega 6 and 3), very high content of lauric acid, as well as vitamin C and Pro-Vitamin A. Both vitamin C and vitamin A are essential for skin health and vitamin A in particular is invaluable for skin repair and regeneration. Murumuru butter also contains myristic acid, oleic, palmitic and linoleic acids. As you can see it has a highly nourishing profile, making MuruMuru an exceptional ingredient for both skin and hair.

Benefits of MuruMuru to skin & hair

When applied to the skin this super nourishing oil helps restore skin elasticity, maintain the skin’s collagen levels, help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and prevent dryness. The antibacterial properties in lauric acid are helpful when dealing with inflamed skin, for example acne, skin cuts and eczema.

This butter is able to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin performance that promote skin regeneration. It is especially helpful to damaged, mature and ageing skin.

We haven't yet included this wonderful ingredient in any of our face or body care but we are offering it in its pure form so you can apply it neat directly where it is needed.

MuruMuru also works wonders on nourishing hair, restoring it’s gloss, softness and flexibility so that you can enjoy frizz-free locks. Murumuru butter has the ability to penetrate deep into the hair cuticle to fortify your hair from the inside and is invaluable to hair lacking moisture since this butter is capable of locking moisture in.

Which products contain MuruMuru

For the moment Murumuru is part of our rich hair conditioners (for dry, frizzy and curly hair) and we also sell it in its pure form.

We are however due to bring out a brand new Hair Repair Serum which will be a 2-in-1 product and can be used as both deep conditioning hair mask or leave on serum on very dry, curly & Afro hair.
