DID YOU KNOW THAT NOT MANY HANDMADE SOAPS ARE
ACTUALLY 100% NATURAL?
Many are simply melt & pour soaps, made from
ready-made bases produced in factories by the
tonne and then simply poured into molds to form
all sorts of shapes. Some use SLS & chemicals,
others use preservatives and foam stabilisers
in their recipe. Many handmade soaps are fragranced
with artificial perfume oils and coloured with
dyes to make the bars look 'pretty'. Other handmade
soaps are indeed natural, but use animal fats
(lard or tallow), and that's definitely not something
we want to put on our skin, or yours for that
matter.
Our handmade soaps are made from pure vegetable
oils such as extra virgin olive, coconut and sustainable
palm oil, and scented with pure essential oils,
especially chosen for their skin healing &
soothing properties. For those who know more about
soap making, the soaps are made using the cold
process which ensures that no oil is ever heated
over 40C and that helps retain the oil's natural
skin loving properties. Our handmade soaps are
rich in glycerine, which forms naturally during
the saponification of the oils. Glycerine is usually
removed from commercially produced soaps, which
would explain why in the past you may have found
soap very drying.
So not only are our soaps made from natural saponified
oils and have their glycerine retained, but they
also have added extra moisturising oils, such
as hemp, avocado or virgin shea butter and organic
aloe vera in our baby soap. The end results is
a scrumptious bar of pure natural soap, which
not only produces a rich and creamy lather, but
moisturises your skin as it cleanses.
The colour of our soaps comes from the natural
colour of the ingredients used in each recipe.
Both hemp & avocado oils are naturally green
(though not as green as some soaps will make you
think!!!), and our virgin shea butter is a rich
beige. 2 bars from the range have added either
pink clay or herbs for their benefitial properties,
which also give a distinctive colour.
We recently introduced 2 types of round bars,
which are palm oil free, but still 100% vegetarian,
very mild and super creamy. The lemongrass &
eucalyptus soap is super refreshing and is speckled
with dried basil for texture. The cocoa, honey
& oatmeal soap is a lovely beigy colour from
the wildflower & manuka honey blended into
the recipe and has added fine oatmeal, Lavender
& Manuka oils to soothe problem skins.
Our soaps are suitable for all skin types, as
a facial soap or even as a shaving soap. And they
make wonderful natural shampoo bars too, so they
could be all you would ever need in your shower.
